Rural Electrification Board was replaced by Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) in 2013 by the Rural Electrification Board Ordinance 1977. BREB was committed to undertake to supply electric power in urban areas of Bangladesh. Rural electrification ensuring improved electricity is fundamental for socio-economic development. Electrical energy access influences the living standards, affecting agricultural productivity, education, health, and other sections.
From 1978 to 2021, BREB achieves a great reputation for the increasing of its facilities like grows consumer connection up to 3 crores 20 lac, electricity beneficiary rise on 99.5%, 16,000 MW power consumption ability, 5.38 lac kilometers distribution line, and prevent the system loss less than 8.33%. 2,51,68,763 houses with a huge number of 10,68,93,673 people are duopolies on BREB.
